Steven Michael Drakeford (Drake), 60, of 923 Plumstead Road, Charlotte, died March 9, 2017 at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte. He graduated from South Mecklenburg High School and attended Johnson C. Smith University and Central Piedmont Community College. He was an employee of Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools and was the founder and long time coach of the Carolina Stompers Basketball team of Charlotte. He touched the lives of many and produced college, WNBA and NBA players. Survivors include his wife of 34 years, Toni, 3 daughters, Konecka, Sha'Necka and Myicha, grandson, Grier, brother Eric Reese of Connecticut and his parents, Viola and Tillman Scott of Great Neck, New York. A funeral service will be held 2:00 pm on Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church, Charlotte. Visitation will be prior to the service from noon - 2:00 at Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place at Northlake Memorial Gardens, Huntersville.
